Privacybeleid Zoom Alerts

Zoom Alerts is een app die natuurliefhebbers en fotografen in Nederland helpt om bijzondere natuurverschijnselen op het juiste moment te zien (noorderlicht, zeevonk, mist, kleurrijke zonsopkomsten en zonsondergangen, en dieren). De app wordt uitgegeven door Reshift Digital B.V. In dit privacybeleid leggen we uit welke gegevens de app verwerkt en waarom.

Geen account nodig

Je hoeft geen account aan te maken om Zoom Alerts te gebruiken. We vragen geen naam, e-mailadres, telefoonnummer of wachtwoord. Je gebruikt de app anoniem.

Welke gegevens we verwerken

  • Locatie. Met jouw toestemming gebruikt de app je locatie (of een door jou gekozen plek) om kansen op natuurverschijnselen lokaal te berekenen en je gerichte meldingen te sturen. Je locatie wordt opgeslagen in onze beveiligde backend zodat meldingen ook werken als de app gesloten is.
  • Toestelidentificatie voor meldingen. Voor pushmeldingen bewaren we een technische pushtoken van je toestel en het platform (iOS of Android). Hiermee kunnen we een melding naar het juiste toestel sturen.
  • Voorkeuren. Je instellingen, drempelwaarden, stille uren en favoriete diersoorten worden opgeslagen zodat je meldingen op maat krijgt.
  • Technische identificatie. Een willekeurig gegenereerd installatienummer en een anonieme account-ID (zonder naam of e-mailadres) koppelen je toestel aan je instellingen, ook als je pushtoken verandert. Daarnaast bewaren we je tijdzone en de taal van de app, zodat meldingen op het juiste moment en in de juiste taal komen.
  • Meldingshistorie. Van elke melding die we je sturen bewaren we titel, tekst, type en tijdstip: voor de meldingen-inbox in de app en om dubbele meldingen te voorkomen. Na 30 dagen worden ze automatisch verwijderd.
  • Eigen waarnemingen. Als je zelf een waarneming meldt (bijvoorbeeld "ik zie het!"), bewaren we het type, de locatie (afgerond op twee decimalen, ongeveer 0,4 tot 1 km) en het tijdstip van die melding. Andere gebruikers van de app zien die melding 3 uur lang als anonieme stip op de kaart en in de telling "meldingen in de buurt"; na 7 dagen wordt de melding verwijderd.

Waarvoor we de gegevens gebruiken

We gebruiken deze gegevens uitsluitend om de app te laten werken: het berekenen van lokale kansen en het versturen van relevante meldingen. We gebruiken je gegevens niet voor advertenties, niet voor tracking, en we verkopen je gegevens niet aan derden. De app bevat geen advertentie- of analytics-trackers.

Met wie we gegevens delen

We schakelen de volgende verwerkers in om de app technisch te laten functioneren:

  • Supabase -- voor het beveiligd opslaan van je instellingen, locatie en pushtoken.
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) -- voor het afleveren van pushmeldingen.
  • Apple Push Notification service (Apple) -- voor het afleveren van pushmeldingen op iPhone en iPad (via Firebase).
  • GitHub (Microsoft) -- onze meldingen worden enkele keren per dag berekend in GitHub Actions. Die omgeving verwerkt daarbij tijdelijk je locatie, instellingen en pushtoken; er wordt daar niets van jou bewaard.
  • Cloudflare R2 -- als opslag voor de weer-, natuur- en ruimteweerdata die de app ophaalt. Deze data zijn voor iedereen gelijk; er gaan geen gegevens van jou naartoe, behalve het technisch noodzakelijke verzoek zelf.

Technisch noodzakelijke diensten

Daarnaast haalt de app, alleen op het moment dat je een functie gebruikt, gegevens op bij de onderstaande diensten. Zij krijgen uitsluitend wat voor die functie nodig is: geen pushtoken, geen instellingen en geen waarnemingen. Zoals bij al het internetverkeer ziet elke dienst daarbij het IP-adres van je toestel.

  • Nominatim (OpenStreetMap Foundation), nominatim.openstreetmap.org -- zet je GPS-positie om in een plaatsnaam als je "huidige locatie" kiest, en geeft een naam aan donkere plekken die de app bij jou in de buurt voorstelt (voor noorderlicht en Melkweg). In dat laatste geval sturen we de coordinaten van die voorgestelde plek, niet je eigen positie.
  • Photon (komoot), photon.komoot.io, en PDOK (Nederlandse overheid), api.pdok.nl -- vinden een plek bij de zoektekst die je intypt in de locatiekiezer. Alleen die zoektekst wordt verstuurd.
  • OpenStreetMap, tile.openstreetmap.org, en ArcGIS (Esri), server.arcgisonline.com -- leveren de kaartachtergrond (kaart of satellietbeeld) op de kaartschermen. Zij ontvangen het kaartgebied dat je bekijkt (tegelcoordinaten).
  • RainViewer, api.rainviewer.com en tilecache.rainviewer.com -- de regenradarbeelden op de regenkaart, per bekeken kaartgebied.
  • EUMETSAT, view.eumetsat.int -- satellietbeelden van bewolking op de wolkenkaart, per bekeken kaartgebied.
  • NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center, services.swpc.noaa.gov, en SpaceWeatherLive, www.spaceweatherlive.com -- actuele zonnewind- en noorderlichtgegevens en het aurora-kaartbeeld. Publieke data; er gaan geen gegevens van jou mee.
  • Zoom.nl (Reshift Digital, de uitgever van deze app), api.zoom.nl en mp.reshift.nl -- foto's van een diersoort bij de soortinformatie. Verstuurd wordt alleen de soortnaam waarvan je foto's bekijkt. Tik je op de naam van een fotograaf, dan opent zijn profielpagina op zoom.nl (*.zoom.nl) buiten de app.
  • Google Maps, www.google.com/maps -- alleen als je zelf op "route" tikt bij een waarnemingslocatie. De app opent dan Google Maps met die locatie; daarna geldt het privacybeleid van Google.

Verder delen we geen gegevens, behalve wanneer dat wettelijk verplicht is.

Toestemmingen

De app vraagt om toegang tot je locatie (voor lokale voorspellingen) en om meldingen te mogen sturen. Je kunt deze toestemmingen op elk moment aanpassen in de instellingen van je toestel; de app blijft dan werken met een door jou gekozen locatie.

Bewaartermijn en verwijderen

We bewaren je gegevens zolang je de app gebruikt. Wil je dat je gegevens worden verwijderd? Stuur dan een e-mail naar redactie@zoom.nl en we verwijderen je gegevens uit onze backend.

Jouw rechten

Op grond van de AVG heb je recht op inzage, correctie en verwijdering van je gegevens. Neem hiervoor contact op via redactie@zoom.nl.

Kinderen

De app is geschikt voor alle leeftijden (4+) en is niet specifiek op kinderen gericht. We verzamelen niet bewust gegevens van kinderen.

Zoom Alerts privacy policy

Zoom Alerts is an app that helps nature lovers and photographers see remarkable natural phenomena at the right moment (aurora, bioluminescence, fog, colourful sunrises and sunsets, and wildlife). The app is published by Reshift Digital B.V. This privacy policy explains which data the app processes and why.

No account needed

You do not need an account to use Zoom Alerts. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number or a password. You use the app anonymously.

Which data we process

  • Location. With your permission the app uses your location (or a place you pick yourself) to calculate the chances of natural phenomena locally and to send you relevant notifications. Your location is stored in our secured backend so that notifications keep working while the app is closed.
  • Device identification for notifications. For push notifications we keep a technical push token for your device and the platform (iOS or Android). That lets us send a notification to the right device.
  • Preferences. Your settings, thresholds, quiet hours and favourite species are stored so that your notifications match what you care about.
  • Technical identification. A randomly generated installation number and an anonymous account ID (without a name or email address) link your device to your settings, also when your push token changes. We also keep your time zone and the language of the app, so that notifications arrive at the right moment and in the right language.
  • Notification history. For every notification we send you we keep the title, text, type and time: for the notification inbox in the app and to avoid sending duplicates. They are deleted automatically after 30 days.
  • Your own sightings. If you report a sighting yourself (for example "I can see it!"), we keep the type, the location (rounded to two decimals, roughly 0.4 to 1 km) and the time of that report. Other users of the app see it for 3 hours as an anonymous dot on the map and in the "sightings nearby" count; after 7 days the report is deleted.

What we use the data for

We use this data solely to make the app work: calculating local chances and sending relevant notifications. We do not use your data for advertising, not for tracking, and we do not sell your data to third parties. The app contains no advertising or analytics trackers.

Who we share data with

We use the following processors to make the app work technically:

  • Supabase -- to securely store your settings, location and push token.
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) -- to deliver push notifications.
  • Apple Push Notification service (Apple) -- to deliver push notifications on iPhone and iPad (through Firebase).
  • GitHub (Microsoft) -- our notifications are calculated a few times a day in GitHub Actions. That environment briefly processes your location, settings and push token while doing so; nothing about you is retained there.
  • Cloudflare R2 -- storage for the weather, nature and space weather data the app downloads. This data is the same for everyone; nothing about you is sent there, apart from the technically necessary request itself.

Technically necessary services

In addition, only at the moment you use a feature, the app fetches data from the services below. They receive only what that feature needs: no push token, no settings and no sightings. As with all internet traffic, each service sees your device's IP address.

  • Nominatim (OpenStreetMap Foundation), nominatim.openstreetmap.org -- turns your GPS position into a place name when you choose "current location", and names the dark places the app suggests near you (for aurora and the Milky Way). In that second case we send the coordinates of the suggested place, not your own position.
  • Photon (komoot), photon.komoot.io, and PDOK (Dutch government), api.pdok.nl -- find a place matching the search text you type in the location picker. Only that search text is sent.
  • OpenStreetMap, tile.openstreetmap.org, and ArcGIS (Esri), server.arcgisonline.com -- provide the map background (map or satellite imagery) on the map screens. They receive the map area you are viewing (tile coordinates).
  • RainViewer, api.rainviewer.com and tilecache.rainviewer.com -- the rain radar imagery on the rain map, per map area viewed.
  • EUMETSAT, view.eumetsat.int -- satellite imagery of cloud cover on the cloud map, per map area viewed.
  • NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center, services.swpc.noaa.gov, and SpaceWeatherLive, www.spaceweatherlive.com -- current solar wind and aurora data and the aurora map image. Public data; nothing about you is sent along.
  • Zoom.nl (Reshift Digital, the publisher of this app), api.zoom.nl and mp.reshift.nl -- photos of a species shown with the species information. Only the name of the species whose photos you are viewing is sent. If you tap a photographer's name, their profile page on zoom.nl (*.zoom.nl) opens outside the app.
  • Google Maps, www.google.com/maps -- only when you tap "route" at a sighting location yourself. The app then opens Google Maps with that location; Google's privacy policy applies from that point on.

We share no further data, except where we are legally required to.

Permissions

The app asks for access to your location (for local forecasts) and permission to send you notifications. You can change these permissions at any time in your device settings; the app keeps working with a location you choose yourself.

Retention and deletion

We keep your data for as long as you use the app. Would you like your data deleted? Send an email to redactie@zoom.nl and we will remove your data from our backend.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct and delete your data. Please contact us at redactie@zoom.nl.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages (4+) and is not directed at children specifically. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
